What size storage unit is right for me?

Finding the right storage unit depends on the number of possessions you plan on storing at our facility. The more items you have, the more space you’ll need. We offer units ranging from below 5’ x 5’ to 10’ x 30’ or even larger, so you can find the right amount of storage space. What type of storage units are available?

Sunbird Storage offers climate-controlled storage units.

Can I change my storage unit size?

Yes! If you find yourself in need of more - or less - space, our team can help you find a better unit for your needs. At Sunbird, you’re not locked into any long-term contracts, so you can change units at any time, depending on our current availability.

Can I buy boxes and packing supplies at Sunbird?

Yes! If you’re about to move into a storage unit, our facility offers moving and storage supplies that help protect your belongings. Our supplies range from boxes, packing tape, mattress and furniture covers, and so much more!

Do you offer more than household storage?

Yes, Sunbird Storage offers business storage and moving storage solutions at every location! Our storage units are equipped to store just about anything you need.

How high is a storage unit?

A storage unit is typically 8-9 feet tall.


Storage Rentals

Can I reserve a storage unit?

Yes, you can reserve a unit online, over the phone, or in person for free! Tell us when you’d like to move in, and once that date is confirmed, we will hold that exact unit for you.

Can I view a facility online before renting a unit?

We offer virtual tours that allow customers to view our facilities and better understand our amenities and storage units. If you’d like to see the inside of our facility, go to our Virtual Tours page to view our Winston-Salem — Country Club location.

How long can I rent a unit?

We don’t have any long-term agreements at Sunbird, so you can rent your unit for as little as a month or two or upwards of a year if you’d like! If circumstances change, we can always extend or shorten your storage stay with us.

How much does a storage unit cost?

A storage unit’s cost depends on the size and features of the unit. The larger the unit, and the more features you require, the price is likely to change. We recommend reviewing your storage requirements and comparing unit sizes to find something that fits your budget and your belongings.

When are payments due?

We can arrange automatic payments each month on a date of your choice, so you know exactly when payment is due every month.

How do I access my storage unit?

You, selected family, and any business associates can access our facility by using our secure keypad entry using a personal security code. Individual units are protected by a lock that is only accessible by the customer. Only contacts you authorize will be able to access your unit.


Typical daily access hours are from 6AM - 11PM, so you can always access your stuff when you need it.

When can I receive help from a team member regarding a rental?

You can always receive help from a Sunbird team member during our office business hours, which are Monday through Friday: 9:30AM – 5:30PM; Saturday: 9AM – 5PM; Sunday: Closed.

Do I need insurance for the contents of my unit?

Yes, all tenants are required to have a Contents Protection Plan for the value of their belongings. For your convenience, we offer a Contents Protection Plan with different options that you can purchase. Alternatively, you may opt to provide proof of your own insurance when you move in! At that time, we will remove this fee from your account.

Do you offer any discounts for veterans?

Yes, we do! We’re a company that values your dollar. That’s why we offer many self storage discounts, including 20% off to all veterans and armed forces. To see all discounts offered, explore our discounts page.

What's the minimum of time that I can rent a storage unit for?

You can rent for as long or short as you need. Stay as little as one month!

What is the administrative fee for?

The administrative fee is a one-time fee that covers the setup of your unit and account in our systems. Through this account setup, you’ll be able to view your balance and make payments online!

What amenities are available at Sunbird?

Sunbird offers an indoor unloading area, loading dock, climate controlled units, elevators, 24/7 video monitoring, high-tech security, protection plan, moving supplies and boxes, and personal services.

Are moving amenities available at Sunbird?

Yes - in addition to our moving and packing supplies, we have moving carts or hand dollies available at our facilities.
